What Nigel says:

The idea for Ship of Ghosts came to me as a result of hearing an old folk song called “William Glenn” which tells the story of what happens when sailors find out that there’s a murderer on their ship. I loved the song and kept playing it and playing it, thinking about the story. Gradually I came up with the idea of bringing it more up to date and telling a similar story through the eyes of a young cabin boy called Mick. Why was he there? How was he affected by the violence? What part did he play in it?
